The brandy is not so much to make the pudding float, but a good dousing is appropriate. Maybe for a different pudding, but not a Christmas one ;). haha! I’m usually not in the U.K. at Christmas time these days but I do miss my Pudding so I never fail to make one around 3/4 months ahead. I usually get mines through a british friend here. Christmas pudding is best made well in advance to allow it to mature. It was rumored that he requested plum pudding at his first English Christmas banquet. My Dad used to feed it through December, by injecting it with more brandy once a week. It simply isn’t Christmas without Christmas Pudding! It really isn’t a big fuss, Cathy, as long as you’re going to be home for 6 hours! It sounds good except for the alcohol. A sauce is not necessary, however, traditionally, Christmas pudding is served with brandy sauce, brandy butter or heavy cream.
